Sydney born Hong Kong drummer and composer Manson Luk has established himself as a prominent musician and bandleader, with music spanning across Jazz, Hip-hop, Gospel and contemporary music. He is involved in award-winning projects, including Sydney jazz collective "Zodiac". As the bandleader of Zodiac, he was awarded the ABC Jazz Composer Commission to record their debut album ‘The Wild Wild East’ (ABC Jazz), which was praised for its evocative and sentimental nature. Their most recent record ‘From’ (2025) was similarly released to critical and public acclaim, subsequently being nominated for an AIR award for Best Jazz Album.
Throughout his career, Manson has worked with several prominent artists and performed at renowned venues and festivals including the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Conservatorium International Jazz Festival, and SXSW Sydney Festival. Performances also include tours across Australia and Asia with Jazz collective 'Zodiac', as well as his debut international tour to Hong Kong last year, with his quintet (Alan Kwan, Bowen Li, Nelson Fung, Jonas Cho).
In this performance, Manson returns with an exciting lineup showcasing musicians that reflect Hong Kong's dynamic and trailblazing jazz scene. Featuring Jonas Cho (sax), Ricky Wong (piano/keyboard) and Nelson Fung (bass) as a quartet unit. Performances include a setlist of music that speak to the group to a deeply personal level, drawing from jazz and modern compositions that reflect the nuances of their upbringing and experience. This includes original works from himself, Jonas Cho, Zodiac, Javier Santiago, Alan Kwan and more, allowing the quartet to become a vessel to explore improvisation, storytelling and musical connection within each other. The group's organic and collaborative nature provides a unique voice, seeking a unique voice that intertwines Hong Kong and Sydney's rich and everchanging music scene.
