Salon 10 proudly presents the Greg Foat Quartet featuring local jazz virtuosos Jona Cho on Sax, Tsang Tak Hong on Bass and Padget Nanton on Drums.

Greg Foat is a London-based keyboardist, composer, bandleader, and DJ whose “non-contemporary” jazz blends library and soundtrack music, folk, psychedelia, hymns, ambient textures, and 1960s–70s pop/soul/blues.  Born in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, he learned piano by ear, then developed through self-taught improvisation; his primary influence is British jazz pianist Gordon Beck, alongside figures like Stan Tracey, Keith Tippett, Ennio Morricone, Michel Legrand, and Vangelis.

He leads the Greg Foat Group (debut: Dark Is the Sun, 2011), co-leads Hampshire & Foat with Warren Hampshire (of the Bees), and releases solo and collaborative albums at a steady pace.  Key recordings include The Dancers at the Edge of Time (2015), Galaxies Like Grains of Sand (2017), Saint Lawrence (2019), Symphonie Pacifique (2020), Psychosynthesis (2022), and The Glass Frog (2024).  His work often uses unusual instruments (harpsichord, tubular bells, large vocal choirs) and analog recording techniques, and draws on British jazz, European film scores, and Isle of Wight musical traditions.  Beyond music, he has toured as an accompanist, contributed to other artists’ records, and published the spoof novel Gigolo (2008).
