The westcoast Canadian started touring in 2021 after she won the JazzTimes’ Readers Poll for “Best Female Vocalist. Her music is inspired by vintage musicals, the American songbook, and bebop. She has performed in Japan, Taiwan, Europe, Türkiye, the UK, and across Canada. In 2024, she was nominated for Jazz Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards and won the All About Jazz poll.
Verbrugge’s 2nd album with top-flight Vancouver musicians was critically-acclaimed for its originality and chosen as a top albums of the year by Scott Yanow. Origin Records released her 3rd album in 2024. Her new autumn 2025 album, In the Wonder of the Night, is her most intimate and vulnerable work to date with NYC veteran pianist Ray Gallon .
Angela was born in Kingston, ON, and grew up playing piano and acting before almost being killed in a head-on collision. After almost drowning and beating cancer, she followed her passion to vocal jazz.
